Family Office & Private Wealth Management Forum 2024

Newport Harbor Island Resort (formerly Gurney's Newport), Newport, RI
July 22, 2024 - July 24, 2024

5 days left

As Opal Group’s flagship event, The Family Office & Private Wealth Management Forum has become Opal’s largest family office event in the world. Known for its rich history and magnificent mansions, Newport, RI attracts thousands of delegates each year. The voyage begins with our Morning Harbor Excursion, where you'll have the opportunity to connect with fellow delegates, exchange ideas, and forge new friendships while enjoying the fresh sea breeze and panoramic views. In the course of three days, family offices, private investors, and investment managers navigate their way through the choppy waters of the past recession, while continuing to explore the best ways to map out their portfolios. With over 1000 delegates there is always an opportunity to meet potential clients. Discussions will cover a wide variety of investment topics including direct investing, impact investing, non-correlated assets, and many more. Come join us this July-- the forecast calls for fun, networking, and favorable prospects for preserving your family’s wealth.

CONFERENCE FORMAT

This conference will exclusively feature dialogue driven panel discussions led by consultants and family offices. *Only Standalone Speakers will be allowed to use PowerPoints for educational purposes, but cannot pitch products.

Unlocking and Optimizing Family Office Assets

The modern family office typically has exposure to both public and private assets, some of which may be concentrated relative to the overall balance sheet. This brings up a host of questions that are crucial for any family office, such as how to best monetize concentrated positions, how to structure hedges to account for an individual stock’s unique characteristics, and how to maximize liquidity from traditionally illiquid assets. Barclays has the structuring and product expertise to provide unique perspective on these questions and more, with experience hedging and monetizing the complex and concentrated assets that define family office balance sheets.

Keynote Discussion: Critical Tipping Points in the Oceans that are a Clear and Present Danger to Humankind With Renown Dr. Sylvia Earle & Dr. Alexander More

The oceans are 90% of climate change, storing most of the heat on earth’s climate system and cover 70% of the surface of our planet.  There are critical tipping points depending on the oceans that are a clear and present danger to humankind.  Climate change is behind the impending collapse of the Gulf Stream, a vital ocean current that has shaped the development of the western hemisphere.  Less well known, but equally crucial, proposed solutions to climate change would affect vast ocean ecosystems where anaerobic microbes that process methane prevent it from entering our atmosphere (methane is a greenhouse gas 86X more powerful than carbon dioxide). Moreover, global heating is increasing the concentration of disease-causing microbes, which are upsetting our fish, mammals, reefs and algae that supply the ecology for our survival.  Just one of these climate change tipping points, such as the collapse of the Gulf Stream, could cause significant damage, disruption and likely reverse existing wealth and its creation.  From a timing standpoint, tipping points thresholds are complex and hard to predict, but once they are exceeded, the earth’s climate system could have a cascading climate impact globally. Our panel will discuss mediation and strategies to slow or reverse planetary decline.

She has a Master’s and doctoral degrees from Duke University, and 34 honorary degrees.

Dr. Alexander More, is a leading climate and health scientist and economist, internationally recognized for discovering the link between climate change and emerging infectious disease (pandemics), as well as resetting baselines for temperature, pollution and economic growth worldwide. He holds appointments at Harvard, the University of Massachusetts and the Climate Change Institute and directs his own center, ECHO, which uses ultra-high-resolution data to understand and predict climate and economic trends.
