First Lien Investment GP LLC, a division of Spurs Capital LLC, is proud to present this two-part web series related to the mortgage lending industry, seasoned whole loan investments, and opportunities in purchasing distressed debt (NPL) in 2020. Part 1 of the series will focus on the state of the industry since the start of the pandemic earlier thisyear and Part 2 will address the future of real estate lending and opportunities on the horizon. Moderated by Bill Bymel, a frontline mortgage investment manager and Amazon best-selling author of WIN WIN REVOLUTION, each episode will offer interviews with active industry experts, visual presentations, and the latest data that will inform and educate you on the real estate mortgage industry, both as an investment class and bell weather for the greater economy. This series will also offer an extended Q & A session where attendees can ask questions on the fly and get up-to-the-minute perspective from investors, analysts, and service providers to residential real estate and the mortgage lending and servicing business. Whether you are an LP investor considering allocation to private debt strategies or if you already have made an investment in real estate debt and are considering your options going forward, this series should provide valuable insight into the state of residential and commercial real estate markets as well as words of caution as you look to navigate the asset class in a post-Covid environment. For service providers and managers of real estate or mortgage assets, this series will provide perspective from established leaders in mortgage investing, real estate, and the non-performing loan arena.

EPISODE 1
Opportunities in Distressed Debt Funds

As Labor Day arrives and families return from summer vacations, where should we focus our attention in the coming months?  Many economists and financial leaders predict that the 4th Quarter of 2020 will be a most turbulent time for the US economy and Global financial markets.  This episode will address what dislocations we see across various investment classes today, but the focus will be residential and commercial real estate debt.  Joined by two experts in the field of distressed debt, moderator Bill Bymel will present perspectives from active investors in the secondary mortgage market.  When the pandemic first arrived, fund managers around the world suddenly started reallocating percentages of their investments into various opportunistic debt funds.  Our panel will address several fund options, their experiences as investors, and offer words of caution to anyone looking to jump into the distressed asset space.  For manager and service providers, this webinar will discuss what has changed over the past decade and where we see opportunity in 2021 or beyond.  Should investors look at larger institutional macro funds or target smaller nimble managers?  Discussions will include predictions for the industry in the coming years and how to prepare for changes as a result of the upcoming presidential election.  The Moderator and his guests will take Q & A live online during the event.

EPISODE 2
The State of Real Estate Lending in 2020

This episode will present empirical data as well as industry expert testimonial to what’s changed in the mortgage industry since the arrival of the pandemic. Guest speakers will include an MBA analyst, a leading portfolio manager, and one representative from the loan servicing arena. As the pandemic set in early in 2020, dozens of mortgage originators altered their lending habits, literally overnight, and many others were forced to temporarily cease operations or shut down completely. What asset classes were most affected? We will discuss the changes in the residential hard money, business purpose loan space as well as what we saw in commercial mortgages as liquidity dried up for several weeks in March. Guests will prognosticate about the future and take questions from audience members who might have concerns about either investment in a lending strategy or what opportunities offer the best risk-reward in the future.
